Roland Park Country School
Athletic Center
Baltimore, MD

A new 60,000-SF athletic center for this college preparatory girls’ school contains a triple-court gymnasium and 3,300-SF jogging track in the gymnasium roof truss space.
The project is LEED Gold certified and received a USGBC Maryland design award. Special controls for the gymnasium HVAC system include CO2 sensing and ventilation reset to provide maximum energy efficiency. In addition, economizer controls allow the gymnasium to be conditioned with 100% outdoor air when ambient conditions allow. Exhaust air from the locker rooms, bathrooms and storage spaces is routed through an enthalpy wheel and used to preheat/precool the ventilation air. Sustainable design elements incorporated into the plumbing systems include low-flow aerators on faucets, two-button toilets, and rainwater collection. Daylighting strategies were incorporated wherever possible, and lighting controls allow the use of natural light.
