Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Center for a Livable Future
Baltimore, MD

This is the first LEED Gold certified project for Johns Hopkins University. The renovated space houses offices for the School of Public Health’s environmental health services program.
A commitment to sustainability and recycled building materials was made at the beginning of the design process. Energy saving devices, such as light sensors, occupancy-sensing lighting and efficient HVAC systems were used. Due to infrastructure limitations in the project area, JPA added a local air handling unit system to replace window air conditioners. Offices with exterior windows have photocell sensors to control light fixtures equipped with programmable dimming ballasts. Private offices and open office suites have ceiling-mounted occupancy sensors. All building systems and equipment conform to the School’s MEP infrastructure master plan, which JPA authored.
