Over the past decade, we have worked for 12 of Maryland’s public school systems and for many independent and faith-based schools throughout the Baltimore-Washington area, completing more than 3-million square feet of new and renovated space for K-12. Founded in 1897, the nation’s first country day school is anchored by Carey Hall, the oldest building on campus. Built in 1920, it primarily houses the upper school. Renovations were made to all four levels of the 67,300-SF building and three additions were constructed totaling 58,700-SF.

A major expansion program provides more than 150,000-SF for Baltimore’s pre-professional charter school, which is recognized as one of the top five public arts high schools in the country. The building program encompasses renovation of an adjacent 1850 brownstone mansion and modernization of the existing school, which was originally built in 1924 as a hotel.

This was the County school system’s pilot LEED project and is the first LEED Certified school in Maryland, achieving a Gold rating. The 82,500-SF school centers on the themes of “Earth, Water and Sun” as the organizing strategies to make sustainable design features visible and reconnect students with the natural environment.

A 12,000-SF addition provides a new, environmentally sustainable upper school library and student commons to serve the entire campus at this college preparatory day school in suburban Baltimore. It also houses a “hub” that combines high-tech learning spaces and resources with the books and comfort of a reading library, a reading café, individual and small group study areas, and a flexible multipurpose room with advanced multimedia capabilities.

A new 365,300-SF building will consolidate the programs of these two nearby schools to the site of the current Dundalk High School. It is the largest single project undertaken by the County school system and represents a unique combination of two types of high schools — one comprehensive and one technical.
